Asuka was similarly static in terms of development, never changing throughout the series from his initially whiny and petulant disposition. He even replaced Asuka halfway through as the show's protagonist, with the latter becoming the show's antagonist. For one, Kira's return made him into even more of a " Gary Stu" then he had been, turning him into a flawless, invincible hero. While it was equally successful in terms of ratings and revenue, SEED Destiny exacerbated the issues that many had with SEED and then some. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny took place two years after the first series, and now focused around Shinn Asuka, a soldier within ZAFT.
